Before this donation, I really only had pair on hand. It was old and falling apart. Also, I'm a veteran teacher on his 19th year of teaching...and my entire career has been elementary music - my passion! Every year I get to work with the same kids and some new ones which means I get to know the old ones more and get to learn about our new students every year. \r\n\r\nOver the years, I've learned to receive grants for more and more instruments in my inventory. We use ukuleles, xylophones, recorders, and hand drums, all of which I love teaching. One of my favorite things to do is have students partner-up on xylophones as they are assigned a \"mystery song\" on the projector. They must learn to play it on their xylophone and slowly figure out which song it is. During these lessons, there are inevitably at least a handful of kids who request a pair of headphones to help reduce how noisy my class can be. Or they complain that they can't hear their own instrument because another kid is playing too loudly (to them). These headphones have made a difference. When the headphones first arrived, I had been doing this particular xylophone lesson, and predictably, one kid complained about the noise and asked if I had anything. I said I did and gave her a pair. Seeing my action, another kid requested a pair too. When I let him use it, he had a big smile on his face and breathed a sigh of relief. He then returned to his instrument and continued to play, undisturbed, and able to enjoy the assignment. \r\n\r\nEvery time I submit a project for my classroom, I wonder if my kids will be seen and supported. I'm so grateful and so humbled that I'm reminded we're not alone. To teach children, it takes a village. And that village includes donors like you. Thank you.","fullyFundedDate":1752586411822,"projectUrl":"project/keep-calm-and-headphones-on/9370661/","projectTitle":"Keep Calm and Headphones On!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Hickey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2602319_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1520567486522","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/tges-music"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_16238","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":584,"numTeachers":60,"percentFrplEligible":62,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":15,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":76,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"9.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":77.7,"schoolId":16238,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Tom Green Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Tom Green Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/hays-consolidated-independent-school-district/tom-green-elementary-school/16238"}
