With colored activities, the students can better see the detail, which improves their vocabulary and understanding of new concepts. Colored images also improve their engagement, as the color serves as a visual support to help them complete some tasks such as joining upper and lowercase letter puzzles. Many students at this age have undiagnosed visual impairments, which sometimes get remedied after the detection or need for glasses during our vision screenings in the fall. Other students are in the inclusion program due to a visual impairment. With colored images, all students can participate and I can differentiate the activity so that all children are challenged.
