For example, students explored current issues such as extreme sports that many teens enjoy, which we connected to the Winter Olympics and discussions about the ages at which athletes begin training. These topics sparked curiosity and naturally led into our argumentative writing unit, where students used the articles to develop claims, support them with text evidence, and respond to counterarguments through structured debates.\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom looks different depending on the group. Some students are reluctant readers due to the complexity of grade‑level texts, while others are capable readers who need topics that feel relevant and engaging. Scholastic Scope has provided the perfect balance of high‑interest content paired with strong instructional supports. The audio versions and vocabulary slides have been especially impactful for students who typically struggle to access complex texts. These tools allowed students who might otherwise disengage to fully participate in discussions and debates, making mature and thought‑provoking topics accessible to all learners.\r\n\r\nOverall, every student has found something to enjoy in the magazine. The March 2026 issue has been a class favorite, particularly the debate article \"Should Your Parents Post About You?\" Students had a lot to say and shared strong opinions about privacy, social media, and what should (or shouldn't) be shared about their lives online. Seeing students so eager to read, discuss, and defend their ideas has been incredibly rewarding.\r\n\r\nThis project has transformed reading from a task into an experience—one where students feel confident, heard, and excited to engage with complex texts. Thank you for helping make that possible.","fullyFundedDate":1765081743789,"projectUrl":"project/rekindling-a-love-for-reading-through-sc/9643338/","projectTitle":"Rekindling a Love for Reading Through Scholastic Scopes","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Luna","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7247978_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755910924568","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7247978"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_9095","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1407,"numTeachers":63,"percentFrplEligible":41,"percentAsian":53,"percentBlack":18,"percentWhite":11,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":13,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"22.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":90.6,"schoolId":9095,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Macario Garcia Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Macario Garcia Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/fort-bend-independent-school-district/macario-garcia-middle-school/9095"}
