During this stage of development, students often experience big emotions, peer pressure, friendship challenges, anxiety, and changes at home. Sand tray activities allow students to use miniature figures, objects, and the sand itself to create scenes that represent their experiences, helping them explore emotions, process challenges, and develop healthy coping skills in a supportive, judgment-free environment.\r\n\r\nThese resources have elevated my work as a school counselor by giving me another meaningful, hands-on approach to supporting students' emotional and social development. One of my favorite moments is watching a student who initially struggles to open up begin creating a sand tray scene and gradually share the story behind it. Sometimes, students communicate through their creations what they cannot yet express in conversation. Seeing their confidence grow as they feel heard, understood, and supported is a powerful reminder of how important it is to provide different ways for students to express themselves.\r\n\r\nI am excited to continue expanding my use of sand tray techniques alongside other creative counseling interventions to help students build self-awareness, emotional regulation, problem-solving skills, and resilience. Middle schoolers deserve opportunities to explore their feelings in ways that feel natural and comfortable to them. Thanks to our generous donors, I can continue creating meaningful experiences that remind students their voices matter and they have a safe space to work through life's challenges.","fullyFundedDate":1769188054517,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-healing-through-play-play-th/9971270/","projectTitle":"Empowering Healing Through Play: Play Therapy","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Moratto","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10391417_orig.jpg?crop=427,427,x0,y62&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1766539597124","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10391417"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_8556","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":673,"numTeachers":65,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":41,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":50,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":3,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"10.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":70.6,"schoolId":8556,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Baxter Junior High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Baxter Junior High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/everman-independent-school-district/baxter-junior-high-school/8556"}
