My school, Seagoville North Elementary, has an enrollment of just over 800 with ninety percent classified economically disadvantaged. My school is a part of Dallas Independent School District. \r\n\r\nI set this project up to have a 5th grade level set of recorders for my students that learned to play recorders in the 4th grade. My current 4th grade students are using the recorders my 5th graders used last year. I see my students one time each week. When I told my students I had done a Donors Choose project to provide a grade level set of recorders for them as 5th graders they were very excited about having the opportunity to learn recorder this year. Every week they came to class I was asked if I knew if the project had been funded or not. When I told them that the project was funded and we just had to wait for the recorders to be shipped to us they were overjoyed.\r\n\r\nWe received the recorders just after our Christmas break. I unpacked them and put each one in a bag with a student name the day they come to class to make passing them out more efficient. The first day we were able to play in class we reviewed the notes we learned with the lessons I used last year. What took several weeks last year they completed in one 50 minute class period!!! After reviewing how to read and finger the notes they learned they read a few of the song we played last year. They could not believe how much they remembered about how to read and play recorder music. They smiles were so big. I use several YouTube recorder play along videos in addition to recorder units from the Quaver Music curriculum. I cannot tell you how excited I am to continue their lessons to expand the their range of notes and introduce more fun songs for them to play.","fullyFundedDate":1760693769721,"projectUrl":"project/recorders-to-play-and-read-music/9528129/","projectTitle":"Recorders to Play and Read Music","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Thomas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10108457"},{"teacherId":8487348,"projectId":7262973,"letterContent":"The books have helped the students grow so much, and they absolutely loved having access to more reading material. Thank you so much for your generosity and support. Not only did they begin reading more often, but they also grew significantly as readers in both confidence and skill. I had students who could previously only read simple words like cat progress to reading more complex words such as respect, which was incredibly meaningful to witness. These books opened doors for my students by motivating them to practice, take risks, and believe in themselves as readers. It is because of donors like you that I can continue doing what I love—supporting students, fostering a love of reading, and helping them reach milestones they once thought were impossible.","fullyFundedDate":1680204909907,"projectUrl":"project/bring-books-to-the-classroom/7262973/","projectTitle":"Bring Books to the Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hocknell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8487348_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1664229762836","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8487348"},{"teacherId":10055975,"projectId":9415376,"letterContent":"When my students first saw the new lap desks and journals, they were so excited! The lap desks have quickly become a favorite during reading and writing time because they give each child their own special space to focus and feel comfortable.\r\n\r\nThe journals have inspired my students to create stories they are proud to share, combining illustrations with words in ways that bring their ideas to life. Our next step is to turn those stories into a classroom library of student-made books that everyone can enjoy. Thanks to your generosity, my students are not only more engaged, but they are also beginning to see themselves as real writers and creators.","fullyFundedDate":1750774751123,"projectUrl":"project/writing-with-heart-and-our-own-space/9415376/","projectTitle":"Writing with Heart and Our Own Space!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. D.
