As their teacher, I'm grateful to be able to plan these experiences knowing we have the supplies we need.\r\n As we read Greek mythology, The Odyssey, Summer of the Mariposas, and The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, students will use these materials to create props and artifacts connected to the texts. They'll be able to shape clay into meaningful objects, design crowns with construction paper, and add details with markers, colored pencils, and washi tape. Each creation will give students an opportunity to explain how their choices connect to a character, theme, or important event. For example, a student might create an object that represents a character's journey and use evidence from the story to explain its meaning. I look forward to hearing their conversations as they plan, work together, and discover how differently classmates can interpret the same text.\r\n Your support gives me more opportunities to connect careful reading with the creative work my students enjoy. These projects will encourage students to make decisions, solve problems, and explain their thinking to others. They will also give students another way to share ideas they may find difficult to express in writing alone. I'm excited to see what they create and how they use details from our reading in their designs. In our upcoming lessons on claims and evidence, students will use them to write a claim and choose details from a text to support it. The clipboards will make it easier for students to work with partners in different spots around the room. Our reading tracker bookmarks will help students keep a record of the books they finish and set goals for what to read next. Having pencils, erasers, glue sticks, and markers available also means students can get started on their work without searching for supplies.\r\n My students work hard, and I want them to feel supported when they walk into our classroom.
