Because dyslexia often presents challenges with traditional reading and writing, LEGO building provides a hands-on, multi-sensory alternative that strengthens crucial skills. It helps improve fine motor skills and dexterity, which can be difficult for some with dyslexia, as well as hand-eye coordination. Working with LEGO also enhances spatial awareness and the ability to visualize three-dimensional objects, a skill many people with dyslexia excel at. \r\n\r\nWhen building with LEGO, students with dyslexia often feel a sense of accomplishment and pride. Unlike academic tasks that may cause frustration or feelings of inadequacy, LEGO offers a safe space for creativity and success. The tactile nature of the bricks can be calming and provides a sense of order. The process of following visual instructions or creating something from scratch allows them to see their ideas come to life, which is a powerful confidence booster. This success can counteract the negative feelings they may have about their learning difficulties, proving to them that they are capable and talented.","fullyFundedDate":1746656025434,"projectUrl":"project/lego-set-project-for-dyslexic-students/9211123/","projectTitle":"Lego Set Project for Dyslexic Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Forteza","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9346432_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1732153383262","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/forteza"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_18302","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":631,"numTeachers":42,"percentFrplEligible":84,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":96,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":0,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"15.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":74.4,"schoolId":18302,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about David G Burnet Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"David G Burnet Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/dallas-independent-school-district/david-g-burnet-elementary-school/18302"}
