When we returned to school in August, we were thrilled to find our new machine waiting for us! After years of use, our previous popcorn machine was no longer in good working condition and was struggling to keep up with the demands of our Friday morning Comet Coffee program. Our new machine has been a wonderful addition and has made a noticeable difference from the very first batch.\r\n\r\nWe are now three weeks into the school year and three weeks into using our new machine, and it has been popping wonderfully! The machine is more reliable, works much more efficiently, and allows our students to continue making the hot, fresh popcorn that has become one of the most popular and beloved items at Comet Coffee.\r\n\r\nSince 2019, Comet Coffee has provided our Life Skills students with meaningful opportunities to practice real-world skills in an authentic school setting. Each Friday, our students prepare food and drinks, organize inventory, take orders, handle money, stock their carts, and deliver orders throughout the school. Through these experiences, they practice communication, math, teamwork, problem-solving, social interaction, independence, and vocational skills while working toward their individual goals.\r\n\r\nThe new popcorn machine may seem like a simple piece of equipment, but for our students, it means so much more. It allows them to continue participating in a job they take great pride in and to maintain a tradition that has become an important part of our school community. Our students love seeing the popcorn pop, preparing it for their customers, and hearing staff members say how much they enjoy their Friday morning treat. The excitement and pride on their faces when they are serving their popcorn is truly priceless.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, this donation has helped ensure that a favorite part of Comet Coffee can continue for years to come. Instead of having to eliminate or limit one of our most popular products because of an unreliable machine, our students can confidently keep \"Comet Coffee Poppin!\"\r\n\r\nWe are incredibly grateful to everyone who supported this project. Your generosity has directly impacted our students by giving them another opportunity to learn, work, connect with others, and experience success.
