Being able to help provide our kids with top of the line bats that they are able to use throughout they year is something I am so thankful for. Throughout our spring season are girls break these bats in with some great plays that leads to great memories. As we transition into our fall season, we are able to allow so many athletes so many opportunities with these bats as they are seeing if softball is a good fit for them. We almost have enough to carry THREE teams in our fall league, which is a fantastic thing. \r\n\r\nThank you all for helping many student athletes participate in our sport. I did not share all of the details of this project with my students so when the items arrived and it was time to open them they were super excited! \r\nI explained the purpose of the journals and how I use mine. We talked about different benefits from using a journal and how reflecting on events, books we read, people we meet, etc. can help us grow as human beings. \r\nI gave them time to begin writing and reflecting in their journals. They also took the time to personalize their journals. Once every couple of weeks we took the time to share anything that stood out to them or something they learned. It is such a joy when book day comes. The joy on students' faces is priceless. When we received \"Dead Poet's Society,\" the Book Club decided to pay homage. To hand out the books, the Club President held the books up for all to see as an offering, as another link in our journey as readers. The club took the books and promptly started reading.\r\n\r\nStarting this book, it was interesting as a teacher to discover that our students did not know what a boarding school was or that schools existed that were only for boys or only for girls. Reading the challenges between students and parents, the students didn't realize that rich kids have the same struggles they do.\r\n\r\nThe book has been a true eye opener and we look forward to completing the journey.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us on our journey. You have touched the hearts of more then the 20 students enrolled in Book Club. The word is out and students who are not in Book Club are coming by to get information. Book Club students loved jumping into this book and then shared their interest with others. We have had new members join and new conversations started. And we have had the highest percentage of students ever who actually finished the book. All our Book Club students start the book, but finishing is a challenge and a huge accomplishment.\r\n\r\n\"All My Rage\" is a sad and intense book that helped start conversations about hope, innocence lost, bullies, families, abuse, and drug use. Students picked quotes that intrigued them. One quote was, \"Water always finds the unknowable.\" This led to revelations about how everybody wants to be loved and water always finds the unloved, making them loved. My favorite discussion stemmed from the quote, \"Losing his innocence was bad but the worst part was him losing his hope.\" Such an interesting conversation trying to define innocence and figure out how you lose it.\r\n\r\nI can't thank you enough for your generosity.
