Being able to offer books that students enjoy in the machine has added to its allure and attraction so that students are motivated to do their best. We aim to promote reading, responsibility, and self-efficacy as students earn their book vending machine tokens.\r\n\r\nStudents have delighted in purchasing their own books. The agency of earning and selecting one's own reading material has been well-researched as an important aspect of growing literacy skills. Since the inauguration of the book vending machine in early October, approximately 50 of our 465 students have met the qualifications to earn tokens. My students come from low-income families and even though they are able to supply some school supplies one of the biggest purchases is headphones. We use the headphones daily. Due to this most headphones need to be replaced by Christmas break and parents aren't able to. With your generosity students are now able to work with their iPad without having to worry about their broken headphones. We have used our carpet not only as a sitting spot but also as a place to learn using the numbers and letters on it. We have used the numbers to help us learn about teen members by creating the numbers that we see on the carpet. We do ABC walks daily and have sat in a spot that took us to new places during reading.
