From the moment the rocket-building materials arrived, excitement filled the room. The sight of colorful bottles, foam shapes, and craft supplies sparked the students' curiosity, and they couldn't wait to start designing their own rockets. As they worked together to construct their rockets, they identified and applied their understanding of shapes like cylinders, cones, and spheres, making connections between geometry concepts and real-world applications. For many, it was their first time seeing how math could translate into something so creative and fun.\r\n\r\nThe true magic happened during the rocket launches. Watching the students' eyes light up as they saw their creations soar into the sky was incredible. They used clinometers to measure the height of each rocket, reinforcing their understanding of angles and measurement. They worked together to analyze why some rockets went higher than others, and how small changes in design could improve their rocket's performance. This process encouraged problem-solving, teamwork, and the confidence to experiment and iterate. The joy and pride they felt when they successfully launched their own creations were palpable, and it was amazing to see them step into the roles of scientists and engineers.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, our students are eager to apply what they've learned to new challenges. They'll continue experimenting with their designs, tweaking their rockets to see if they can improve their flight distances and height, and tracking their results using math and scientific principles. This project has not only deepened their understanding of geometry but also sparked a passion for inquiry and discovery. Your support has given them a meaningful way to connect their learning to the world around them, and we are excited to see where their curiosity takes them next!","fullyFundedDate":1746812538476,"projectUrl":"project/blast-off/9264280/","projectTitle":"Blast Off!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sereno","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1669708_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1478886377439","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-plumb"},{"teacherId":9404447,"projectId":9279620,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our classroom will now have a warm and inviting space where students can fall in love with reading. It was all worth it when, on the very first day, students walked in and immediately asked, \"When can we go read over there?\" Their excitement made it clear: our reading nook is going to be a favorite spot this year! \r\n\r\nYour kindness has created more than just a reading nook—you've helped build a place where imagination grows, confidence soars, and learning feels like an adventure. Many of our new books feature familiar characters which my students love to \"read\" together. Every week after our library lesson, my PreK students choose a book to check out for their classroom library. They love the opportunity to choose a book from our collection. One of the PreK students is already reading. Watching her find books that she can read on her own has been such fun!\r\n\r\nThe board books are also used for our buddy readers.
