My students and I are already using the new materials in meaningful and exciting ways. One of our favorite moments so far was introducing the treasure chest during articulation practice. After a student worked hard to produce a clear /s/ sound in words, she opened the treasure chest with the biggest smile and proudly selected a small prize. This turned a challenging task into a moment of celebration for her and motivated the rest of the group to try their best too.\r\n\r\nThe students were thrilled when they first saw everything laid out on the table. The pretend play food set immediately sparked imaginative role-play, and several students began creating menus and restaurants using the crayons, colored pencils, and pencil boxes. These activities have opened the door for rich expressive language practice, new vocabulary, and opportunities for social communication. The dental model has also become an instant favorite and has helped students visualize tongue and lip placement for sounds like /t/, /d/, and /l/ in a hands-on and memorable way.\r\n\r\nWith these new tools, we are now building toward a classroom project focused on real-world communication skills. Students will use the pretend food, art supplies, and calm strips to participate in themed lessons where they learn vocabulary, practice turn-taking, follow multi-step directions, and express their wants and needs more independently. Your generosity makes these experiences possible, and I am deeply grateful for the impact you are having on my students' confidence, engagement, and communication growth.\r\n\r\nThank you again for believing in our classroom and helping my students shine.","fullyFundedDate":1746785356382,"projectUrl":"project/engaging-tools-for-speech-therapy/9064314/","projectTitle":"Engaging Tools for Speech Therapy","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sam","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9144560_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y806&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1691381064508","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9144560"},{"teacherId":3092959,"projectId":9147034,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your wonderful donations. The students are eager and excited to make better choices because they love the neat scratch and sniff stickers. They are working hard and following rules in order to earn them. I am able to encourage desired behavior and reward it with the cool stickers. You also donated little squishy fidgets/ toys and I will use these as rewards also. I plan on making agreements with each student I need to focus on and at the end of the week, when they have been doing their part with following their agreements, they will be able to pick a squishy toy. Thank you so much for these enticing incentives. My students really respond well to working hard in order to earn something.\r\n I also wanted to thank you for the kinetic sand, legos, putty, dollhouse furniture and people. It used to make me so sad when the kids would play with the doll house and put little animals in there, because we didn't have little people or furniture for it. The students will be so excited about our new little people and furniture. This will be an excellent way for them to self-regulate and be able to calm down in order to get back to class. The putty will also be really helpful and popular. The kids like something in their hand to squeeze and manipulate while they talk. They love when the putty smells good, like the ones you provided for us. \r\n It is a new year and it is a blessing to be able to start the year with some new and neat stuff the children can use to self-regulate. I am so happy and excited to be able to watch the students play with the new toys and get excited about the new rewards. Thank you so much for giving me these tools, things I need to motivate and reward the students so they continue to work hard on their goals, agreements and personal growth. You all are amazing. Incentives—whether they are small prizes, classroom supplies, or reward items—can boost student motivation, encourage positive behavior, and reinforce academic achievement. For special education students in particular, these incentives provided meaningful reinforcement that helped them stay engaged, build confidence, and feel recognized for their efforts. The donations also helped relieve the financial burden on us teachers who often provide these materials out of their own pockets. Overall, having access to donated incentives created a more encouraging, inclusive, and supportive space where students are inspired to do their best every day. Students strived harder and harder each day to get their minutes on their learning programs that are required by our district. Like in the first picture, students started helping each other to complete their minutes so they can earn points for incentives.
