Many of them benefit from repeated exposure to predictable stories, hands-on activities, and opportunities to practice retelling in a supportive environment.\r\n\r\n\"There Was an Old Lady...\" books are highly engaging, with repetitive text, strong story structure, and humorous elements that motivate students to participate. The predictable patterns make them ideal for developing vocabulary, sequencing, comprehension, and expressive language.\r\n\r\nIn addition to language development, these books are a wonderful tool for targeting articulation and speech sound production. As students repeat familiar phrases and key vocabulary, they have multiple opportunities to practice specific speech sounds in a meaningful context. This repetition supports clearer pronunciation, increased accuracy, and greater confidence when speaking.\r\n\r\nTo make learning even more meaningful, we use a \"Little Old Lady\" trash can that students can \"feed\" as we retell each story. As they place items into the trash can, students practice sequencing events, using complete sentences, answering questions, and building narrative skills.
