It makes me happy to see my students ask to grab a book off of my bookshelf, without being prompted, whenever they have free time. Our entire curriculum is online, and with teaching in a low-income area, many of my students do not have the means to purchase their own set of headphones. New books are always welcome in my classroom. They are such an easy way to motivate students to grab a book and read. \r\nWhen I first moved into this reading position at Rockwood Middle School four years ago, I inherited a bookshelf filled with books that the teacher who taught before me had collected over her 30+ years of teaching. As I searched through the books, I recognized many of them as books I had considered old when I was going through school. I remembered reading the Baby Sitters Club Books and the Boxcar Children books when I was in middle school, and seeing those same books on my bookshelf, I felt somewhat defeated. It wasn't that they were bad books, but they were books that were old and less intriguing to students who were born over 20 years after they had been written. Don't get me wrong, countless classics were written long before you or I were born, but as young students just now beginning to find an interest in reading, the books on my bookshelf weren't very supportive. \r\nI feel so blessed to have new and updated books on my bookshelf, thanks to you. I already have had several students ask me if they could check one out, and that hasn't been happening much all school year until now. Truly, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I appreciate you.","fullyFundedDate":1774657292842,"projectUrl":"project/books-that-build-readers/10166957/","projectTitle":"Books that Build Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Henderson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6800170_orig.jpg?crop=3780,3780,x0,y756&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1775055451981","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/hendersonstem"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_93075","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":281,"numTeachers":22,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":88,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":5,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"12.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":66.7,"schoolId":93075,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Rockwood Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Rockwood Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/tennessee/roane-county-school-district/rockwood-middle-school/93075"}
