This is my 3rdyear teaching it after teaching almost 20 years in a Science classroom. I remember growing up that almost every social studies teacher I had utilized the old flip maps attached to their board. These maps chronicled time periods or major events in history. I looked into getting maps for the classroom. High quality maps run anywhere from $100-$200 per map. I cover history from colonization (1500's) up through the Civil War. This would lead to thousands of dollars over time. It's not easy to find these high quality maps, and I would be able to buy only a couple at a time. \r\n With US History, it's tougher to convey information over digital maps. The maps are not always present. Students are distracted by their devices. Using a physical map not only gets a student's attention, but also allows them to interact with the maps. I found a set of maps that would meet my needs, and cover over 20 different time periods. That we teach. However, the cost was beyond my means, and my school would not be able to cover it. \r\n Thanks in part to you, I was able to not only meet the needs of the students, but allow them to see maps in a way they are not used to seeing. These maps are not only large maps, but also cover the time periods they are leaning about throughout the year. These maps can also be marked on which allows me to elaborate on the map/point in history, adding in more information, thus further enriching their experience. I cannot thank you enough for your help in making this happen for my students. Not only do they have high-quality maps, but a different perspective on physical maps, what they mean, and are able to elaborate more on the information presented in class thanks to your help.","fullyFundedDate":1781374531127,"projectUrl":"project/maps-for-my-middle-schoolers/10257407/","projectTitle":"Maps for My Middle Schoolers","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Hardin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/hardinhistory"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_92464","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":551,"numTeachers":31,"percentFrplEligible":60,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":56,"percentWhite":28,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":7,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":2,"gradesServed":"5 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"17.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":84.6,"schoolId":92464,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Head Middle Magnet School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Head Middle Magnet School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/tennessee/metro-nashville-public-schools/head-mid-magnet-math-sci/92464"}
