Our students have used the garden supplies to plant vegetables, herbs, and pollinator-friendly flowers while learning important science concepts such as plant life cycles, ecosystems, weather patterns, soil composition and environmental stewardship. The students were excited to go into the garden every day to learn. The tools helped to get the students really involved in the learning. This helped the really understand the statement garden to table.\r\nWhen students first saw the materials arrive, their excitement was contagious. Many of them had never participated in gardening before, and they were eager to explore the tools, seeds, and supplies. This experience has made the students excited about nature and growing their own foods. \r\n\r\nThe impact of these resources extends beyond science instruction. The garden has become a place where students practice teamwork, problem-solving, observation, literacy, and mathematics skills. Students work together to care for plants, collect data, measure growth, and reflect on their learning. The garden has also fostered a greater appreciation for healthy eating, environmental responsibility, and community service. We were even able to incorporate the parents into our learning by allowing them to take some of the vegetables and herbs that we have grown.The students excitedly gave their parents garden tours to explain what we do and what we were growing.\r\n\r\nOur next steps include expanding the garden to increase food production and creating student-led projects focused on sustainability and food systems. Students will continue monitoring plant growth, analyzing data, and learning about the relationship between pollinators and food production. We are also planning opportunities for students to harvest produce and share what they learn with families and community members. Through these experiences, students are developing a deeper understanding of science while building confidence, leadership skills, and a lasting connection to the natural world.\r\n\r\nWe are deeply grateful to our donors for making these opportunities possible. Your generosity has provided our students with meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that will continue to inspire curiosity, discovery, and growth for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1776125985824,"projectUrl":"project/roots-and-wings-community-garden/10081192/","projectTitle":"Roots and Wings Community Garden","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Atkins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10067078_orig.jpg?crop=532,532,x0,y23&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1770149476872","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10067078"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_125525","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":355,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":95,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":0,"gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":66.7,"schoolId":125525,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Memphis Merit Academy Charter School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Memphis Merit Academy Charter School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/tennessee/memphis-shelby-county-schools/memphis-merit-academy-charter-school/125525"}
