We use literature to work on close reading, analysis, discussion, and evidence-based writing. Students learn to look beyond simply what happens in a story and consider how authors develop characters, themes, conflicts, and larger ideas. Just as importantly, they practice forming their own interpretations and supporting those ideas with evidence from the text.\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom is a combination of independent reading, reading together, and class discussion. I want students to see reading as something active rather than an assignment they complete and forget. We stop to discuss interesting passages, make connections, ask questions, debate interpretations, and sometimes simply talk about whether we liked what we read and why. Those conversations often lead to some of our best classroom moments.\r\n\r\nOne of the greatest benefits of having more books available is being able to put books directly into students' hands. Some students are already enthusiastic readers, while others are still discovering what kinds of books they enjoy. Having a wider selection makes it much easier to connect individual students with something that interests them. It is especially rewarding when a student who does not normally consider themselves a reader finds a book they genuinely want to keep reading.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us expand our classroom library and giving my students more opportunities to read, think, discuss, and discover books that might stay with them long after they leave my classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1785258028218,"projectUrl":"project/revive-the-library/10278905/","projectTitle":"Revive the Library!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. McGowan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10505427"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_98256","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":108,"numTeachers":3,"percentFrplEligible":27,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":9,"percentWhite":53,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":22,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":9,"gradesServed":"11 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"36.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":100.0,"schoolId":98256,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Middle College at Apsu on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Middle College at Apsu","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/tennessee/clarksville-montgomery-co-sd/middle-college-high-school/98256"}
