Many of them come from rural and economically disadvantaged backgrounds, and they resonated with Esperanza's story. \r\nThe novel touches on the significance of community ties, both in terms of family and neighborhood. For Appalachian students, who often have strong ties to their local communities, the themes of family loyalty, love, and solidarity resonated deeply. While the students do not share Esperanza's exact experiences, they could still relate to the importance of community support and the ways in which people help each other navigate difficult circumstances. In summary, The House on Mango Street was a catalyst for reflection, discussion, and personal growth among my students, helping them to see their own experiences within a broader context. The novel's impact is both personal and collective, encouraging students to think critically about their own lives and the world around them.","fullyFundedDate":1727998072841,"projectUrl":"project/reading-is-fun-house-on-mango-street-bo/8649367/","projectTitle":"Reading is Fun: House on Mango Street Book Set","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Adkins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1509143_orig.jpg?crop=471,471,x74,y168&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1690815878955","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1509143"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_42884","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1198,"numTeachers":87,"percentFrplEligible":19,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":88,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"13.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":56.1,"schoolId":42884,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Heritage High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Heritage High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/tennessee/blount-county-school-district/heritage-high-school/42884"}
