All students at Hawthorne are super excited to use all the materials. Whenever students see the games, their first reaction is, \"Whoa! Those are for us to use!?\" They are so thankful to be able to play with not only a variety of games but also brand new games with all the parts and pieces needed! \r\n\r\nThe games and project materials have provided a space for students to have fun in the classroom while also working on vital social skills. For this first rotation of games, we have been working on taking turns, following the rules, and winning and losing appropriately. I have seen the activity bring students together who might not be speaking to each other otherwise. We will continue to rotate games and activities throughout all classrooms this school year. Each time a new rotation begins, we will choose another social skill to focus on. The portable whiteboard is absolutely phenomenal and has already added SO much to our lessons. I read a study earlier this year that explained how students are 90% more likely to reference an anchor chart or facts from a lesson if they are involved in the creation of the poster you display in your class. Before this, I had no area to make anchor charts with the class, and I was normally creating them after school so I could lay the paper on the ground. With this new portable whiteboard, I just move it to the front of the class, and we create the poster together in real time during the lesson! \r\n\r\nI have already seen an improvement in students walking up to the anchor charts and using/referencing the knowledge displayed on it, which is so rewarding as a teacher. It also has positively affected my classroom engagement during lessons, because students want to be able to help me create the poster!
