Each student, from Kindergarten through 6th grade, used the 3D pens to design their own Halloween-themed creation. From spooky spiders and glowing ghosts to pumpkins and jack-o'-lanterns, every project was unique and imaginative.\r\n\r\nThe creativity and conversations that emerged during this project were incredible to see. Now that students have mastered the basics of using the 3D pens, they're already brainstorming ideas for their next project—and I can't wait to see where their creativity takes them next!\r\n\r\nThis project was only possible because of each and every one of you! Your dedication to education and your generosity make it possible for so many students to learn and grow through hands-on STEM exploration. I'd like to share the incredible impact your generosity has had in my classroom.\r\n\r\nFor my coding and information technology unit, I was able to provide each student with their own Micro:bit. Through this, students explored what defines a computer and identified its core components—inputs, outputs, and processing systems—using the Micro:bit as a hands-on example. Building on their prior experience with Scratch block coding, students deepened their understanding by applying concepts like variables, loops, and conditionals. They then downloaded their code to the Micro:bit, allowing them to see how their inputs, processing, and outputs functioned together in real time.\r\n\r\nThe students were thrilled by this hands-on coding experience. They saw their code come to life—for example, programming the Micro:bit to respond to inputs like button presses and observing the resulting outputs. These lessons also connected coding to real-world technologies, such as step counters in watches or the color-changing patterns in Christmas lights.\r\n\r\nOne of the key projects involved programming the Micro:bit to count steps using its built-in accelerometer. Students coded their devices to notify them—through animations or songs—when they reached their step goals. Another project taught them to control Christmas lights, coding simple patterns by toggling lights on and off with binary commands (0s and 1s). These projects culminated in a creative challenge where students built Christmas parade floats, integrating their coding skills with Micro:bits and Little Bits. They proudly showcased their floats to younger students, who were captivated by the displays.\r\n\r\nWhat stood out most was how these projects engaged students who are often quieter or less involved in other activities. Many of these students excelled in coding, surpassing the project requirements with enthusiasm and creativity. They appreciated the freedom to design their own solutions and appreciated the hands-on approach to learning.\r\n\r\nYour donation made this transformative learning experience possible.
