We have been using them almost daily to learn new bowing styles, better phrasing, ensemble balance and blend, and vibrato techniques. These books are a wonderful resource!\r\n Upon arrival, each student was given a copy and they usually complain about technique books, but once we dove into the material, they actually don't say anything negative. They finally enjoy the new concepts they are learning. They are nice and shiny too (for now :-)). \r\n We are really enjoying the chorales in the books too. They are so beautifully arranged and are really helping our ensemble's sound. I'm able to talk about phrase shapes and dynamic swells during each phrase. \r\n These Sound Innovations for string orchestra books 3 and 4 will be an important part of the Landrum High School string orchestra program for years to come. We are currently using these resources to head up our \"Seed-to-Table\" project, where students are directly responsible for the life cycle of their chosen plants. Just a few days ago, I watched a group of students huddle over a bed, whispering in excitement as they discovered the first green shoots of a green bean plant breaking through the soil. One student, who typically finds it difficult to focus during traditional lectures, spent twenty minutes meticulously measuring the seedling's height and recording it in their journal. It has turned this lesson from a subject they have to study into a living project they want to protect.\r\n\r\nThe initial reaction to the materials was one of pure, unbridled curiosity. When the large boxes of metal beds and the colorful seed packets first arrived, the room was buzzing with questions. To the students, these weren't just supplies; they were a vote of confidence in their ability to build and grow something of their own. There was a sense of pride as they helped carry the soil and sort the seeds by planting depth. Seeing the physical materials made the concept of \"sustainability\" feel real and attainable, and they were eager to get their hands dirty immediately.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next steps involve a deep dive into the math and biology of the garden. The students are now beginning to track growth rates and will soon be using their data to calculate the average time to maturity for our different crops. We are also preparing to study local pollinators, with the students planning to observe and catalog the different insects that visit our beds once the first flowers bloom. Your generosity hasn't just provided met and dirt; it has provided a laboratory of life that my students will remember for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1771029924892,"projectUrl":"project/cultivating-cardinals/9970033/","projectTitle":"Cultivating Cardinals","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hyder","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9538963_orig.jpg?crop=3118,3118,x0,y249&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756133060861","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9538963"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_27747","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":526,"numTeachers":48,"percentFrplEligible":88,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":85,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":8,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":2,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"11.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":53.2,"schoolId":27747,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Landrum High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Landrum High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/south-carolina/spartanburg-school-district-1/landrum-high-school/27747"}
