Musical instruments like the Xylophone help young musicians isolate Do and Sol so they can begin playing chords and eventually chord progressions. We have been playing the xylophone individually and as pairs to build on ensemble creation and listening ears. I am most excited to introduce the xylophone and drum set through modern or popular music to bring what the students already know and love into the classroom. \r\n\r\nStudents have been able to explore the xylophone sound through our pirate week as they play along to our pirate song called In the Hammock. Every student when they have walked into the classroom has pointed out the new instruments. Some students where excited because they played them in their old school and it was something that felt familiar. Some students were curious about what the new instrument was. Some had so much spirit for them that we decided to let the play some xylophone solos on our bass line. All students have had a chance to practice gentle instrument playing and experience the new sound of a Xylophone. \r\n\r\nAs their teacher I hope these new instrument experiences help students grow a love for music that they take with them.
