However, the drums are already being put to good use as we establish our understanding of the Elements of Music--rhythm in particular. With the younger students who have never been given the opportunity to play the drums, they love getting to play the drums that are a better size for their smaller bodies. We have been able to establish call-and-response norms, as well as have students compose their own rhythms and play them for each other.\r\n\r\nAfter receiving the materials, I set them up in the drumming area of our classroom, and the older students realized right away that we had new equipment. They were thrilled! I allowed them the time to just get to try them out and then we were able to do a fun rhythm game as an entire class at one time! Which is something we've never been able to do due to not having enough instruments.\r\n\r\nHaving the ability to broaden my students' musical experiences is truly a gift that I can't adequately express my gratitude for. I hope the smiles in the photos with the little ones gives you at least a small glimpse into the joy you've provided for our school.
