They were especially excited to use Mr. Sketch scented markers and color sticks, which added an extra layer of sensory engagement to their artwork. The vibrant colors and unique scents made the creative process even more enjoyable for them. One of the most memorable projects was our collaborative quilt for Black History Month, where each student contributed a personalized square that reflected influential figures, cultural symbols, and historical moments. The quilt, now proudly displayed in the cafetorium, serves as a powerful visual representation of unity, heritage, and artistic collaboration. Students felt a deep sense of pride seeing their work showcased in a public space, reinforcing the importance of their artistic contributions.\r\n\r\nBeyond drawing and painting, students also explored three-dimensional art through ceramic sculptures and pottery. The use of my clay cutter allowed them to achieve clean, precise shapes, making their ceramic creations more refined and detailed. They experimented with various hand-building techniques, such as coiling, slab construction, and sculpting, to bring their ideas to life. Many students expressed their enthusiasm for working with clay, as it provided a hands-on, tactile experience that differed from traditional two-dimensional media. From intricate figurines to functional pottery pieces, each project demonstrated their growing skills and artistic confidence. This exploration of ceramics not only enhanced their understanding of form and texture but also gave them a sense of accomplishment as they saw their raw clay transform into finished artworks through the firing and glazing process.\r\n\r\nFor our final clay project, students will take their creativity a step further by designing and crafting games out of ceramic. This challenge encourages them to think critically about functionality, aesthetics, and user interaction. Whether they choose to create chess pieces, board game tokens, or interactive puzzle elements, they will need to consider how their designs contribute to the overall gaming experience. This project also reinforces problem-solving skills, as they must ensure that their ceramic components are durable and well-balanced. By blending artistry with play, students will gain a deeper appreciation for the intersection of design and everyday objects. Ultimately, this culminating project serves as both a creative and intellectual exercise, allowing them to showcase their artistic growth while producing a meaningful, interactive piece of art.","fullyFundedDate":1737940015307,"projectUrl":"project/art-class-basics/9069277/","projectTitle":"Art Class Basics","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Jenkins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7866858_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1737756788425","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7866858"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_6574","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":503,"numTeachers":46,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":73,"percentWhite":12,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":8,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"10.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":55.4,"schoolId":6574,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about W.G.
