Ceramic glazes and carving tools are essential in properly finishing a earthenware piece. Students have learned that clay found outside can be made into usable pots, holders, vases, sculptures and even jewelry. Carving tools are used before the clay is baked to create sharp edges and beautiful relief pieces. Ceramic glazes is the next step in the process after students have learned what happens to clay when heated to over 1500 degrees. They'll learn that their clay can hold liquids and become stronger through the use of non toxic glazes.
