My school is an Alternative Education Program. We have little funding, and we are tasked with making more things happen with less and less funding. Crafting allows our students to return to a more child like time, and helps to build community and deeper relationships. \r\n\r\nThese crafts have been used in different ways. With the river rocks we have created rocks that we have put into a Kindness Garden. This is an area of our school garden we have placed the rocks, and students can go read the positive affirmations, and think positive thougts. We have used the coloring pages, and craft supplies to allow the students to color, use fidget toys, and create crafts to reduce stress. We also have created sock puppets and used them for talking through life scenarios. The students have been able to go into our student garden and draw, or get inspiration from the outdoors to paint or draw. All of these things have allowed students to develop coping strategies for stress and anxiety, but in their own unique ways. \r\n\r\nWhenever we have used the supplies, the students have gotten excited and look forward to the days we can bring them out and use them. I cannot begin to tell you how happy they were when we were unboxing everything. They could not believe that someone they didn't know would be so generous. It made a huge impact on how they saw themselves, and that to someone out there, they mattered! \r\n\r\nThank you from the bottom of my heart and from our Project Go Students,","fullyFundedDate":1734709481314,"projectUrl":"project/crafting-coping-skills-through-art-and/8707040/","projectTitle":"Crafting Coping Skills through Art and Play","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. DeWease","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6280333_orig.png?crop=462,462,x45,y43&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1644251524891","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6280333"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_123686","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":50,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":82,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":72,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":10,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":null,"schoolId":123686,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Project Go Alternate Education Program on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Project Go Alternate Education Program","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/south-carolina/pickens-county-school-district/project-go-alternate-education-prog/123686"}
