I serve students ages 3 through 11 with speech language impairments. Many of them have Autism and/or ADHD and seek movement to help regulate and get their bodies 'ready' to learn. My room is small, so the stools were noticed right away! Many students ran to them and excitedly asked if they could sit on them. I explained that the stools and bumpy seats are tools to help them learn, not toys. They know the 'rules' of the stools and seats, and they have demonstrated over the last 2 months that they understand this rule. \r\n\r\nThe other addition to my room were light covers that go over the fluorescent lights in the room. As mentioned earlier, my room is small, and there are 4 lights, in addition to 2 windows. Many times throughout the day we are able to leave the lights off and have adequate daylight to work. You will see this in one of the pictures. However, when the lights are needed, four fluorescent lights are very bright. The light covers that look like fluffy white clouds in a bright blue sky help to dull the harsh brightness of the fluorescents, offering a more natural light filter. One of my students loves the light covers and very excitedly states, \"The clouds\" each time he enters my room. \r\n\r\nWhat I have noticed with these additions to my room is improved posture (wobble stools require students to engage their core) which supports more improved articulation, and higher engagement as students are not wiggling and fidgeting during our sessions. Now they can move in an effective and meaningful manner. \r\n\r\nThe wobble stools and bumpy seats, combined with the cloud light covers provide a more sensory friendly classroom environment. My students enjoy choosing their seating option at the beginning of each session, and I enjoy the benefits of an engaged core, engaged mind, and eager to learn student! None of this would have been possible without your generosity and support.","fullyFundedDate":1765203431568,"projectUrl":"project/wobble-while-we-talk/9616490/","projectTitle":"Wobble While We Talk","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Goodale","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10184986"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_6751","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":697,"numTeachers":41,"percentFrplEligible":85,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":30,"percentWhite":46,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":10,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"17.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":45.1,"schoolId":6751,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Riverside Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Riverside Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/south-carolina/horry-county-school-district/north-myrtle-beach-elementary-school/6751"}
