The books and activities you purchased have initiated this project which we plan to build upon for the future. This year 56 student athletes will participate in these new leadership mini lessons using the books as the texts for learning more about themselves and more about how to lead others. This approach will help them grow as people, not just as athletes, and will help them become leaders in every aspect of their lives. \r\n\r\nAs the coach said, these mini-lessons will help us to stop \"telling them to be leaders and start showing them how to be leaders.\" The students have already shown great promise. They visited a primary school and read to children, exercising their servant leadership skills. We hope to see this program build a cultural shift among all our student athletes toward servant leadership, but the beginning, as a direct result of your generosity, has great promise.","fullyFundedDate":1769177889223,"projectUrl":"project/huddle-time-in-the-library-leading-thro/9977294/","projectTitle":"Huddle Time in the Library: Leading Through Reading and Doing","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Russell-Albach","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp396117_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1484586667386","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/cyndi-russellalbach"},{"teacherId":9872462,"projectId":9961733,"letterContent":"I am writing to express my sincere appreciation for the impact that basic supplies like highlighters, page protectors, expo markers and etc have had in our multilingual classroom. While these materials may seem simple, they have played a powerful role in supporting student learning, engagement, and confidence.\r\n\r\nAccess to basic supplies such as notebooks, pencils, folders, and visual aids ensures that every student can fully participate in classroom activities without barriers. For ML students in particular, having consistent and reliable materials helps create a sense of stability and belonging in what can often be a challenging and unfamiliar learning environment.\r\n\r\nThese supplies allowed us to implement hands-on, interactive lessons that support language acquisition and comprehension. Whether it's practicing writing skills, organizing vocabulary, or engaging in collaborative group work, these tools make learning more accessible and meaningful. They also help reduce stress for students who may already be navigating language differences, cultural adjustments, and academic expectations.\r\n\r\nBeyond academics, providing these resources sends a clear message to our students: they are valued, supported, and capable of success. That message alone can have a lasting impact on their motivation and self-confidence.\r\n\r\nThank you for recognizing the importance of these foundational resources and for contributing to an environment where all students have the opportunity to thrive.","fullyFundedDate":1769177889372,"projectUrl":"project/small-supplies-big-learning/9961733/","projectTitle":"Small Supplies, Big Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mendiola","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9872462_orig.jpg?crop=381,381,x0,y48&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1739376661491","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9872462"},{"teacherId":396117,"projectId":9961982,"letterContent":"My avid manga readers were so excited to see some of their favorite series finally complete. The issues that this grant provided helped to fill in the gaps where popular series had an individual volume lost or damaged, making it impossible to finish the whole series. Finishing a series matters to serious readers who feel strongly about reading each one without skipping one. \r\n\r\nWhile we will still have manga issues left to hunt in other series, this grant allowed us to finish three of our most popular series. All of these series were unavailable from our traditional sources of library book publishers making your gift even more valuable to our readers. \r\n\r\nMy school's readers do not have ready access to bookstores or libraries in many of their neighborhoods, making their school library their primary source of books. In addition, they and their families do not have the funds to purchase the books that the student may desire to read. When the supplies arrived, my students were eager to get started. For many of my English language learners, having quality materials to draw, label, and design with has made lessons more engaging and accessible. One student used the sketch pad to illustrate transportation words we were learning, and another created a diagram with a ruler to organize new vocabulary. These moments showed me how the right tools can open up opportunities for participation.\r\n\r\nWe are using the supplies in ongoing projects such as illustrated vocabulary journals and posters that connect words to images. The sketch pads, in particular, have helped students practice writing alongside their drawings in a way that feels less intimidating. Next, we plan to begin a collaborative project where students will combine drawings and English phrases into a class mural that reflects both their learning and their cultural identities.\r\n\r\nYour support has made a direct impact by giving my students the chance to practice language through hands-on, creative work. Independent reading impacts a student's test scores and achievement in school in every area, but often reading for fun is squeezed out by other competing needs. For students who love to read, I wanted to give them a community to talk about the books they enjoy, but unlike other students these students can't pull up their parent's Amazon accounts and purchase what they want to read. They have access to few books, so the school library becomes their main source of books. \r\n\r\nAs the young man who is pictured pointed out to me, the school's library has a much better selection of manga than the neighborhood public library. Your donation feeds his interest in reading for fun and helps the library to provide a community-building experience for the students around reading and books. They are already asking if we have bought the rest of the series. I assured them that I have ordered the next books in the series, volumes 5 and 6. I can't wait to build on their interest to create a larger reading culture throughout this Title 1 school.","fullyFundedDate":1743722457690,"projectUrl":"project/inaugural-warrior-manga-book-club/9208301/","projectTitle":"Inaugural Warrior Manga Book Club","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Russell-Albach","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp396117_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1484586667386","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/cyndi-russellalbach"},{"teacherId":10004207,"projectId":9266686,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous donation of headsets, our newcomer students have been able to practice their English in ways we couldn't do before. The headsets help block out distractions and let each student focus and learn at their own pace—which makes a huge difference.\r\n\r\nThe part that gets our students most excited is how the computer actually \"talks back\" to them. They love seeing the green check mark pop up when they say something correctly! One student, who was super quiet and nervous to speak in class, now jumps right into Speakable every day.
