But even better, the garden has transformed how we approach math:\r\n\r\nMeasurement & Growth: Students are practicing fine motor skills and spatial awareness by using rulers and unifix cubes to measure plant heights, comparing tall stems to short sprouts.\r\n\r\nCounting & Data: Daily check-ins involve counting leaves, grouping seeds into sets of tens, and tracking growth on simple visual bar charts.\r\n\r\nMoney & Responsibility: We have incorporated the garden into our token and counting systems, where students earn and budget tokens for taking on specific garden care jobs.\r\n\r\nWe are so profoundly grateful to have the support of people like you who see the value in giving our students multisensory, accessible learning experiences. This year 56 student athletes will participate in these new leadership mini lessons using the books as the texts for learning more about themselves and more about how to lead others. This approach will help them grow as people, not just as athletes, and will help them become leaders in every aspect of their lives. \r\n\r\nAs the coach said, these mini-lessons will help us to stop \"telling them to be leaders and start showing them how to be leaders.\" The students have already shown great promise. They visited a primary school and read to children, exercising their servant leadership skills. The issues that this grant provided helped to fill in the gaps where popular series had an individual volume lost or damaged, making it impossible to finish the whole series. Finishing a series matters to serious readers who feel strongly about reading each one without skipping one. \r\n\r\nWhile we will still have manga issues left to hunt in other series, this grant allowed us to finish three of our most popular series. All of these series were unavailable from our traditional sources of library book publishers making your gift even more valuable to our readers. \r\n\r\nMy school's readers do not have ready access to bookstores or libraries in many of their neighborhoods, making their school library their primary source of books. In addition, they and their families do not have the funds to purchase the books that the student may desire to read. Independent reading impacts a student's test scores and achievement in school in every area, but often reading for fun is squeezed out by other competing needs. For students who love to read, I wanted to give them a community to talk about the books they enjoy, but unlike other students these students can't pull up their parent's Amazon accounts and purchase what they want to read. They have access to few books, so the school library becomes their main source of books. \r\n\r\nAs the young man who is pictured pointed out to me, the school's library has a much better selection of manga than the neighborhood public library. Your donation feeds his interest in reading for fun and helps the library to provide a community-building experience for the students around reading and books. They are already asking if we have bought the rest of the series. I assured them that I have ordered the next books in the series, volumes 5 and 6.
