The new STEM materials you helped fund—especially our Ozobots and BristleBot kits—have transformed how my neurodiverse learners engage with robotics and problem-solving.\r\n\r\nOne unforgettable moment happened during our first hands-on build session. As soon as my students saw the colorful bots and tactile components laid out on their workstations, their faces lit up with excitement. One student, who typically hesitates to initiate tasks, immediately began sorting pieces and asking, \"Can I make mine go in a circle?\" Another proudly exclaimed, \"This is like real science!\" The joy was palpable—and for many, it was the first time they saw themselves as engineers.\r\n\r\nWe've been using these resources to explore cause-and-effect, sequencing, and collaborative design. In our current unit, students are designing obstacle courses for their bots using recycled materials and visual maps. They're learning to test, revise, and celebrate each other's ideas—skills that go far beyond robotics.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be diving into a community-themed coding challenge where students will program their bots to \"visit\" different stations representing local landmarks and services. It's a way to connect STEM with social-emotional learning and community awareness, all while reinforcing accessible routines and communication strategies.\r\n\r\nYour gift didn't just bring materials into our room—it brought possibility. From bold kings and queens to imaginative interpretations of jokers, the project not only strengthened their painting skills but also allowed them to express themselves in a fun, creative way.\r\n\r\nThe best part is that we had materials left over, which meant the creativity didn't stop with the playing cards. Students eagerly used the remaining supplies for additional painting projects, exploring new techniques and experimenting with their own original designs. Through these stories, students have gained valuable coping strategies and problem-solving skills by engaging with the experiences of diverse characters.\r\n\r\nExploring social interactions and relationships in literature has helped students develop appropriate social behaviors and communication skills. By observing how characters navigate friendships, resolve conflicts, and collaborate effectively, students can apply these lessons to their own interactions.\r\n\r\nSocial-emotional books also offer meaningful opportunities for self-reflection, enabling students to connect their personal experiences with those of the characters. This process enhances self-awareness and deepens their understanding of emotions and behaviors.\r\n\r\nMany social-emotional texts feature characters from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. Such representation is crucial for promoting inclusivity, acceptance, and respect for diversity among all students.\r\n\r\nIntegrating social-emotional learning (SEL) through literature contributes to a positive classroom environment. When students learn to understand and regulate their emotions, they are more likely to foster a supportive and respectful atmosphere for their peers.\r\n\r\nMoreover, emotional regulation and social skills are strongly linked to academic success. Students who effectively manage their emotions and engage positively with others demonstrate greater motivation and achievement in their learning.","fullyFundedDate":1744290665356,"projectUrl":"project/importance-of-reading-social-emotional-b/9226785/","projectTitle":"Importance of Reading Social Emotional Books for Students","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Supreethi","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9990710_orig.png?crop=1062,1062,x4,y1036&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757006855403","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9990710"},{"teacherId":7100465,"projectId":9227165,"letterContent":"\"Coloring With Purpose,\" was my favorite project this year.
