When we first started this project, we dreamed of having a classroom that felt modern, engaging, and truly interactive, but your support has turned that dream into a vibrant reality that we get to experience every single day.\r\n\r\nFifth grade is a pivotal year for us. It is the bridge between elementary school and middle school, a time when the concepts we learn become more complex and the way we interact with information needs to become more sophisticated. Before your gift arrived, our classroom relied on a static projector and a standard whiteboard. While they served us well, they often felt like a barrier to the kind of collaborative, fast-paced learning that our generation thrives on. Now, that barrier has been completely removed.\r\n\r\nThe impact of the Smartboard was immediate. From the moment we turned it on, the energy in the room shifted. We are no longer just passive observers of a lesson; we are active participants. In mathematics, instead of just watching a teacher solve a long division problem on a dusty board, we are able to come up and manipulate digital base-ten blocks with our hands, moving them across the screen to visualize the remainders. It has turned \"scary\" math into a hands-on puzzle that we actually look forward to solving.\r\n\r\nIn social studies and science, the world has quite literally opened up to us. Last week, while studying ecosystems, we were able to take a high-definition virtual field trip to the Great Barrier Reef. The colors were so vivid and the movements so clear that it felt as though we were diving right alongside the marine life. For students who may never have the chance to see the ocean in person, this technology provides an equitable window into the wonders of the world. We are also using the board to practice our research skills, navigating maps and historical archives as a group, which helps us learn how to find and verify information in a digital age.\r\n\r\nFurthermore, this Smartboard has fostered a new sense of community and collaboration among us. It has become a central hub where we share our work, give each other feedback, and work together on group presentations. It gives every student a chance to shine, especially those who learn better through visual and kinesthetic methods. Your donation has empowered us to take ownership of our learning, building the confidence and technical skills we will need as we transition to middle school next year and eventually into a tech-driven workforce.\r\n\r\nWe want you to know that your kindness has reached far beyond just buying a piece of equipment. You have shown us that there are people in the world who believe in our potential and are willing to invest in our future. That realization is perhaps the most valuable lesson of all. We promise to treat this technology with the utmost respect and to use it as a tool to grow, explore, and excel. Thank you again for your selflessness and for making our classroom a place where we are truly excited to learn every day.","fullyFundedDate":1767711742630,"projectUrl":"project/interactive-learning-a-digital-canvas-f/9853217/","projectTitle":"Interactive Learning: A Digital Canvas for Student Discovery","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ford","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9481906"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_71129","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":382,"numTeachers":20,"percentFrplEligible":48,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":14,"percentWhite":15,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":65,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"19.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":83.5,"schoolId":71129,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about International Charter School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"International Charter School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/rhode-island/rhode-island-department-of-education/international-charter-school/71129"}
