Students' favorite part of yoga is often Savasana, which is a supine yoga pose performed at the end of a session to facilitate deep relaxation, mental stillness, and integration of practice benefits.They use the blankets as pillows or for adding weight as they settle on their mats. After an hour of meditation, breathing, downward dogs and warrior 2s, the students get to settle in and just be still - no phones, no distractions. When they get up from Savasana, they walk out into school calmer, more collected and relaxed. The blankets make this so much easier. \r\nThey also use the blankets during our practice, helping to sit up higher or give them support in some of the challenging poses. This simple yoga practice is life-changing, and your donation helps ensure more kids receive these benefits.","fullyFundedDate":1764677758874,"projectUrl":"project/destress-and-empower/9918662/","projectTitle":"Destress and Empower","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bryant","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5756523"},{"teacherId":2493706,"projectId":9927722,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your incredibly generous donation of $500 worth of board games to our students at Blackstone Academy Charter School through DonorsChoose. Twenty students are taking yoga, with twenty signed up for next semester and a long wait list. At the start of the class, I gave surveys to students to gauge their stress levels and knowledge of techniques to manage their stress. At the start, 25% reported stress interfering with their lives at least twice a week; 45% reported stress interfering 3-4 times per week and 30% reported that stress interrupted their life every day. When asked how they managed that stress, one student reported being able to take deep breaths, one person said they talked to a trusted person, and the rest (90%) said they dealt with stress by distracting themselves on their phones. The need for stress management is clear. \r\n In the past ten weeks, students have learned a variety of breathing techniques and yoga postures. In addition to all basic poses, they practice being in the moment, cultivating resilience and strength, building awareness of their emotions and bodies, and finding balance all on the mats and with the props you helped purchase. While their favorite part is definitely a good shavasana (the final pose where they lie on their backs), they have built mental and physical strength beyond what I could have hoped. Some of the kids were reluctant at first: C. spent the first few classes taking very extended breaks and wandering the halls. She stuck with it and now doesn't miss a class: She's the one who helps demonstrate the poses. Another, R., at first saw this class as an excuse to curl up on the mat and fall asleep. She now leads our beginning of class meditation. Another, T., is signing on to take the class next semester as a teacher's assistant. \r\nI gave another student survey last week. 100% reported that they feel more relaxed and calm at the end of class, with 92% reporting they had learned ways to quiet their mind and become more relaxed that they now use outside of class. \r\nThank you again!","fullyFundedDate":1755233615217,"projectUrl":"project/grounded-and-focused-empowering-teens-t/9581229/","projectTitle":"Grounded and Focused: Empowering Teens Through Yoga","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bryant","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5756523"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_73947","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":345,"numTeachers":25,"percentFrplEligible":68,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":25,"percentWhite":6,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":61,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"13.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":38.3,"schoolId":73947,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Blackstone Academy Charter School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Blackstone Academy Charter School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/rhode-island/rhode-island-department-of-education/blackstone-academy/73947"}
