Without your help I would not have been able to fund the project and spread the excitement to my students!\r\n\r\nThe books purchased are published by the Phonics Read Aloud Series. In each of the books, a phonics skill or strategy is introduced as a \"character\". For example, two letters that makes their sounds together are called a blend. In The Very Clever Consonant Blends story, a blender named Blendy is able to take two consonant sounds and blend them together to be slightly different. This is how blends work in words too. Students can still hear the individual letter sounds, but when blended together they make a new sound.\r\n\r\nEach of the books introduces an abstract idea and creates a concrete character to represent it. The pirate-shaped letter \"r\" is the bossy one who makes vowels change (known as r-controlled vowels). The magician letter \"e\" shows how adding a magic e onto a word can make the short vowel say a long sound. Each of these books not only provides the concrete character to make sense of the skill, but a plushie accompanies the book as a reminder to students about the taught phonics rule. \r\n\r\nMy students enjoy \"meeting\" these characters one by one as we learn and practice phonics. The characters are then on display for us to refer to or have some fun with during follow-up lessons!\r\n\r\nAgain, thank you for choosing to support my project!","fullyFundedDate":1742338853050,"projectUrl":"project/science-of-reading-stories-stuffies/9178602/","projectTitle":"Science of Reading Stories & Stuffies!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hoard","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9970736_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742233272869","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/janicehoard"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_91489","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":241,"numTeachers":22,"percentFrplEligible":66,"percentAsian":13,"percentBlack":5,"percentWhite":26,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":47,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"11.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":56.6,"schoolId":91489,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Stadium Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Stadium Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/rhode-island/cranston-public-school-district/stadium-elementary-school/91489"}
