In the lower grades, we introduce a new folksong story book every 2 weeks, and the students LOVE getting to experience a new story and learn the song. Once the song is learned, students find joy in going back to the books so they can demonstrate how they have mastered a previous song/story. With you help, we are strengthening both music and English literacy!\r\n\r\nAnother part of this project was headphones for our classroom keyboards/pianos! The students now are able to go to \"keyboard stations\" to work collaboratively with a partner and listen to each other practice and play. Our students absolutely loved exploring how to use their kazoos at our Winter Concert, and the song that they played was definitely a crowd pleaser. The younger grades learn about kazoos in their science unit, so it was great to see them make a connection watching the older grades play kazoos in a song at the music concert. \r\n\r\nThe project also refilled our colored ink supply for the music department printer, which is much needed to create color-coded manipulatives and color-coded sheet music to help students with their literacy. We've been able to print out colorful manipulatives for students AND designed beautiful posters and programs for our Spring music concert - all of which were created and selected by students. \r\n\r\nThe high-resolution scanner also helped with scanning student artwork that was inspired by our Spring concert's musical selections so that we could display student art throughout the concert on a projection screen (which was a previous DonorsChoose project!). \r\n\r\nWe are already looking forward to getting so much more out of our printer next school year.
