Students are using the board games during class activities, study halls, and PBIS reward days as a tech-free way to build critical thinking and collaboration skills. What has been especially powerful is watching students naturally challenge one another, creating friendly competitions not only among themselves but even inviting their math teacher to join in! During one class period, students organized their own Genius Square challenge bracket, timing one another and celebrating improvements. The energy in the room was focused, positive, and completely screen-free.\r\n\r\nWhen the games first arrived, students were genuinely excited. Many immediately gathered around the tables, eager to learn the rules and try them out. What surprised me most was how quickly they became invested. They now look forward to earning board game days. Some students have even taken pictures of the games or written down the names to share with their families so they can request them for holiday breaks and family game nights at home.\r\n\r\nThis project has grown beyond a classroom activity as it has become a community building experience. Students are strengthening problem-solving, communication, and perseverance skills while building relationships in an authentic, face-to-face way. Moving forward, we plan to incorporate more structured strategy challenges connected to career readiness and decision-making lessons. Thank you for helping us create a space where connection, conversation, and confidence can grow without screens.","fullyFundedDate":1766951022065,"projectUrl":"project/opportunity-without-screens-stem-sel/9973635/","projectTitle":"Opportunity Without Screens: STEM & SEL Through Board Games","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gregorski","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9970307_orig.jpg?crop=2688,2688,x201,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742219161850","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9970307"},{"teacherId":8989515,"projectId":9392255,"letterContent":"These calculators have helped my students tremendously.
