The moment we opened the boxes, curiosity filled the room—students immediately began examining the blades, generators, and components, asking thoughtful questions about how design choices might impact energy output. It was inspiring to see their enthusiasm turn into action as they began sketching ideas and predicting which designs would generate the most electricity.\r\n\r\nWe are now fully immersed in a hands-on design challenge where students work in teams to engineer their own wind turbines. Using the KidWind kits, they are testing variables such as blade length, pitch, and number of blades to maximize power generation. One standout moment came when a group redesigned their blades after initial testing and more than doubled their voltage output—celebrating not just success, but the engineering process of iteration and problem-solving.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue refining their designs based on collected data and will present their findings, explaining the science behind their decisions. They'll also connect their work to real-world renewable energy challenges, considering how wind energy can be optimized in different environments. Your generosity has made this authentic, inquiry-driven learning experience possible, and it's already having a lasting impact on how students see themselves as engineers and problem-solvers.","fullyFundedDate":1771343845844,"projectUrl":"project/environmental-engineering-course-pilot/10028458/","projectTitle":"Environmental Engineering Course (Pilot)","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Mannarino","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10406283"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_88731","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1143,"numTeachers":59,"percentFrplEligible":16,"percentAsian":20,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":71,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":4,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"19.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":60.9,"schoolId":88731,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about South Fayette Township High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"South Fayette Township High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/pennsylvania/south-fayette-township-school-district/south-fayette-twp-high-school/88731"}
