The funding for this project has allowed me to open up my elective class next year to more students. I will be teaching a class called Brain Games: Math in Action and we will be working on probability, statistics, and other communication/community building games. Currently, my students are playing Connect 4 every moment of free time they have! \r\n\r\nThe students could not believe that we were gifted so many games. The large connect 4 board is a HUGE hit and the students play it and create brackets to determine the #1 connect 4 player. When they saw the materials they could not believe their eyes. \r\n\r\nMy next step will be to include more of these games in a new course. The games help students build their social skills as well as mathematic skills and has cut down on the amount of time they want to be on screens in the classroom. It is absolutely wonderful to see the students engaged in appropriate \"play\" in the classroom at the 8th grade level and not be staring at their phones!
