Students use these appliances throughout the week to wash and dry work uniforms, lost-and-found clothing, and other items from around the school community. Through these hands-on activities, students are developing important independent living skills such as reading clothing labels, sorting laundry, selecting the correct wash and dry settings, transferring clothes between machines, and folding finished items. One memorable moment occurred when a student independently completed an entire load of laundry from start to finish, proudly showing classmates that they could follow each step of the process on their own.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new washer and dryer, they were excited to have equipment that mirrored what they will use in their homes and future workplaces. Many were eager to learn how the machines worked and immediately wanted opportunities to help with laundry tasks. The new appliances have increased student engagement and confidence because they can practice real-world skills in an authentic setting while contributing to our school community.\r\n\r\nAs we continue expanding our transition programming, students will build upon these skills by working with our Occupational Therapist to focus on clothing care and management. They are practicing buttoning shirts, hanging garments properly, organizing clothing, and developing routines that promote independence. These experiences help prepare our students for adult life by teaching practical skills they will use at home, in supported living environments, and in future employment settings. Thank you for providing these valuable resources and helping our students gain the confidence and independence needed for success beyond high school.","fullyFundedDate":1786328265452,"projectUrl":"project/building-independence-one-load-at-a-tim/10410427/","projectTitle":"Building Independence, One Load at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Thomas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10561793"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_89617","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1146,"numTeachers":90,"percentFrplEligible":16,"percentAsian":14,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":69,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":3,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"12.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":73.7,"schoolId":89617,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Radnor High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Radnor High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/pennsylvania/radnor-township-school-district/radnor-high-school/89617"}
