Oooh I have a teddy bear! I found another bear!\" I asked \"what shape is this?\" Had the students count the sides of a shape they counted 8 and learned the shape octogon! I had them add 5 bows plus 2 bows equals 7 bows! Then I had them look inside the shape and sort by holes in the shape! Together in class, we read through the scholastic news. We practice identifying the front cover, the title and letters. Inside, students are able to follow along as we read together. \r\nThe magazines are a great visual tool for my English language learners too. All the pictures provide another context clue to the meaning of new words. The language used is simple enough that students can begin to find sight words too.
