The day the Glowforge arrived felt like opening the door to a whole new level of learning. My students were immediately drawn in, watching it cut and engrave their designs was like seeing their ideas jump off the screen and into real life. For many of them, this was their first experience with advanced manufacturing technology, and their reactions ranged from pure amazement to nonstop questions about how they could create something of their own.\r\n\r\nWe've already begun using the Glowforge in meaningful, hands-on ways. During a recent engineering challenge, students designed assistive devices to solve everyday problems. They used CAD software to plan their ideas, then brought those designs to life by laser cutting their prototypes. What stood out most was how invested they became—students were revising measurements, troubleshooting design flaws, and encouraging each other to improve. It shifted the classroom from simply completing an assignment to truly thinking and working like engineers.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue applying these skills and fabricate components for various prototypes. The Glowforge is allowing them to be more precise, creative, and confident in their work. Your support has given my students the opportunity to experience real-world engineering in a way that is both engaging and inspiring. What may look like a single piece of equipment is, in reality, an open door to exploration, experimentation, and artistic voice.\r\n\r\nPrintmaking is unlike any other medium we teach. It requires planning, patience, technical precision, and creative risk-taking. With the addition of the press, students are now able to experience the full process of printmaking—from etching their designs into plexiglass plates to inking with brayers, carefully positioning paper, and turning the wheel to reveal their finished print. That moment of lifting the paper and seeing their image transferred successfully is powerful. It builds confidence in a way few other classroom experiences can.\r\n\r\nYour support has allowed students to:\r\nDevelop technical skills in etching, inking, and proper press operation\r\nUnderstand the artistic power of repetition, layering, and variation\r\nExperiment with texture and composition in sophisticated ways\r\nStrengthen fine motor control and attention to detail\r\nCollaborate with peers, sharing techniques and problem-solving together\r\n\r\nBeyond technique, the impact is deeper. Students are learning that artwork can evolve through multiple impressions. They are discovering how subtle changes in ink, pressure, or layering create entirely new outcomes. They are thinking critically about process, not just product. Most importantly, they are developing their voices as artists.\r\n\r\nIn a world that moves quickly, printmaking teaches patience and intention. It shows students that meaningful results come from preparation, experimentation, and perseverance. Your investment in this press has expanded what is possible in our classroom and elevated the level of artistic rigor we can offer.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in the creative potential of our students. Your generosity will continue to shape their confidence, skill, and love of art for years to come.\r\nWith sincere gratitude,","fullyFundedDate":1746498278191,"projectUrl":"project/from-plate-to-paper-unleashing-creativi/9136503/","projectTitle":"From Plate to Paper: Unleashing Creativity Through Printmaking","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mager","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9283862"},{"teacherId":9283862,"projectId":8958085,"letterContent":"Thanks to your incredible generosity, \"Building Puppets, Building Minds\" has truly come to life in our classroom—and so have our students' imaginations! The moment the new materials arrived: the room buzzed with excitement. Students crowded around the bins of wool, in every color, wide-eyed and eager to dive in.\r\nEach student was tasked with creating unique characters including a background story, personality traits, and interests. Students had to draft ideas in their sketchbook and then begin felting the wool with a barbed felting needle. Students began felting with the most basic shape and slowing added details. Students had to troubleshoot their designs to the limitations of the wool and adapt their ideas. \r\nOne powerful moment came when a student who typically struggled with different mediums, who also has special needs, just thrived with sculpting the wool Their elaborate character was sculpted beyond my expectations, and he eagerly came into the classroom each day and got right to work without distraction. \r\nThanks to you, this project has become more than an activity, it's a transformative experience where creativity meets critical thinking.
