My students come from low-income families, and while some are able to bring supplies at the beginning of the year, many arrive empty-handed. Although the School District of Philadelphia provides a small allotment for supplies, it is unfortunately not enough to cover our actual needs. Having these materials donated lifts a significant financial burden off my shoulders and gives me the creative freedom to plan engaging daily activities, knowing my students will always have the tools they need to succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1758840230927,"projectUrl":"project/everyday-tools-for-kindergarten-success/9519450/","projectTitle":"Everyday Tools for Kindergarten Success","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Quinones","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7401040_orig.jpg?crop=772,772,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1664730725701","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7401040"},{"teacherId":3303536,"projectId":9860041,"letterContent":"We are using the pencils and paper every single day to support meaningful learning. Students now have consistent access to materials for note-taking, math practice, and writing assignments without interruption. One special moment that stood out was during a math lesson when every student was able to work through problems independently on fresh paper, showing their thinking step by step. The reward prizes have also become a powerful motivator—students earn them through effort, participation, and growth, which has helped build a positive and focused classroom culture.\r\n\r\nMy students were genuinely excited and grateful when they saw the supplies. There were smiles, cheers, and lots of \"thank yous.\" Many students immediately asked when they could start using the new pencils and what they could earn with the reward prizes. It meant so much to see them feel supported and valued, knowing that others cared enough to invest in their learning.\r\n\r\nRight now, students are building their skills through ongoing math problem-solving and written responses that require them to explain their thinking clearly. Having reliable supplies allows them to focus fully on learning rather than worrying about materials. As we move forward, students will continue practicing independence, perseverance, and pride in their work—skills that will support them not just in this unit, but throughout the school year.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping make our classroom a place where students feel prepared, motivated, and excited to learn. Your generosity truly makes a difference every day.","fullyFundedDate":1762266339228,"projectUrl":"project/supplies-for-success-helping-fifth-grad/9860041/","projectTitle":"Supplies for Success: Helping Fifth Graders Thrive","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Markowitz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3303536"},{"teacherId":6818412,"projectId":7744333,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous donation, our dual language kindergarten classroom has become a more welcoming, engaging, and language-rich environment. The new bilingual rug is now the heart of our morning meetings, where we start each day learning in both English and Spanish. It provides a designated, cozy space where students feel grounded and ready to learn. The colorful visuals and bilingual elements on the rug have also supported language development as students refer to them during lessons, songs, and conversations. Meanwhile, our new Classroom Puppet Pals have sparked creativity and storytelling like never before. One memorable moment was when students used the puppets to retell stories in both languages — even our quieter learners eagerly participated, bringing their characters to life with excitement and confidence.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the students were absolutely thrilled. They immediately ran to the rugs, pointing out familiar letters, colors, and images in both Spanish and English. Some students even lay down and began reading books right on the Happy World Carpet in our library corner — it's quickly become a favorite reading spot. The puppets were a huge hit too; students lined up to choose their favorites and began inventing stories on the spot. It was clear right away that these resources were going to make a lasting impact.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're building a bilingual storytelling unit where students will create and perform their own short puppet shows. Using the rugs as gathering spaces and the puppets for performance, students will practice vocabulary, sentence structure, and presentation skills in both languages. These resources have truly transformed how we learn and connect as a classroom community — thank you for helping bring this vision to life!","fullyFundedDate":1701471347424,"projectUrl":"project/new-kindergarten-dual-language-spanish-a/7744333/","projectTitle":"New Kindergarten Dual Language Spanish Alphabet Rug","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Santiago","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6818412_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1570277753099","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/helpmefundthisproject-msvsantiago"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_90910","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":437,"numTeachers":44,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":29,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":65,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":1,"gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"9.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":60.2,"schoolId":90910,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Gloria Casarez Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Gloria Casarez Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/pennsylvania/philadelphia-city-school-district/sheridan-elementary-school/90910"}
