With our funding cut once again, we knew that this year, our kids would have to go without. This project was funded at the end of last school year, and now that we are starting this school year, I have finally had the time to review all of the items. My incoming students will have so many vital resources for at home learning. Most notably, the skin tone crayons. Often, when I speak to parents, they tell me how wonderful their children feel when they can pick through and find their skin color in a crayon box. Without the generous donations given to this project, my students wouldn't have had access to these crayons at home. Being able to see yourself in every day things is such an important experience for every child to have, and with the donation of our Colors of the World crayons, my first graders get to experience just that. With all the many other resources provided, the first graders in my class have all the tools they need to succeed in first grade. The supplies that were on our list will help me to give students the essentials on day one of the 26-27 School Year. With the purchase of folders, students will have their correct subject folders in their desks. They will also have a high quality plastic folder for all homework and newsletters that will go home! Students will also have new white boards to help with quick response activities on the rug. The pencil sharpener I have already put to good use this school year, with students getting super excited to be the pencil sharpener of the week on our Friday cleaning days. \r\n These materials and so many more would not have been possible without the fine donations of the DonorsChoose Community.
