Students needed the snacks every afternoon during the first weeks of kindergarten. Since our lunch is early in the day, students were hungry in the afternoon. Since it would be a few hours before dismissal, students would get cranky. I am thankful that I could provide a snack for them.\r\nThe students love the stuffed animals and puppets. The especially like the weighted animals. They provide comfort to my students when they are upset and need a hug. In their individual sketchbooks, which scholars are always ecstatic to receive, they learned about line by completing blind contour portraits, an activity which also helps to break them from the confined mindset that all their work has to be \"perfect\" and \"realistic.\" Using the variety of drawing pencils, scholars learned about how lead softness changes the quality of a line, and they then practiced shading using the different pencils. \r\nThe larger, rolling bookshelf, has provided a save home for our ever-growing book collection featuring comics, graphic novels, and manga. Scholars outside of Comic Club are now able to borrow books from the cart, and are given the chance to not only practice literacy skills, but also life skills. This year, my class has learned to love reading and enjoy having copies of books in their hands. Our school has implemented \"Partner Reading\" daily so students are extremely excited to have designated times to read teacher-selected, self-selected, and peer recommended books. The book included in this project, \"My Librarian is a Camel\" was a must read for many scholars and we only had one class copy.\r\n\r\nBecause our current curriculum only provided one copy of the text \"My Librarian is a Camel\", we were reading from printed copies made from the one text we had in class. Now, with multiple copies, our students have books in their hands with color photos. We are so elated!! Students loved the scented slime and we added small ornaments to the containers. They were excited to pick their color and then find out how the slime smelled. The also loved the tiny ornaments that went inside of the slime. We have enough for each student to receive two containers of slime. The left overs went into our class prize box.\r\n\r\nKindergarten students are always in need of snacks. It is essential to offer my small scholars a snack during the long afternoons. The variety brings them the joy of selecting their own snack. I enjoy seeing the teamwork, communication, and social skills as students learn to collaborate to achieve a common goal.
