When completing and participating in our 4th grade book clubs, my students got an opportunity to share thinking, ideas, and their own sense of pride. Finishing these book club opportunities have helped my students learn that even when reading seems tough, it is extremely powerful.\r\n\r\nThese books clubs have provided an experience that promotes development in several skills. Text structure, text features, story elements, visualizing, inferencing, vocabulary acquisition, and identification of moral and lesson are only a few of skills we have touched upon within our discussions.\r\n\r\nWith the use of these novels, my classroom has become a revolving door of readers. It has given all of my students a chance to enjoy reading even if they struggle. These are all essential skills necessary to become intentional purposeful readers. These books have added to the interest level that was needed to reengage my fourth grade learners. As an educator, I was excited to find titles that not only provided a chance for my students to work as a community of learners...but it was also a novel none of them had read before. Finding this type of novel can be a challenge in fourth grade. We have spent the first novel study of the year reading like \"adult learners\". My students commented that they felt like readers not just decoders. I was a thrilled educator. Thank you all for making this opportunity happen for the readers of Dassa.
