Your donation provides a safe, calming space where my students can pause, reset, and nourish their minds. Whether they are just taking a mindful moment between classes or enjoying a refreshing earned treat, I wanted to bring awareness to the importance hydration plays in the development of my students. Staying hydrated is key to focus, decision making, headache reduction, and overall wellness. Your generosity reflects an understanding of the value of mental health and self-care that I am trying to instill to my learning and bring to my school building.\r\n\r\nThe students were very excited for the new materials in the room. The lamp, rug, and chairs brought about a comfy space that is not offered in any of their other classrooms. The ice machine and water cups on display were also a welcome addition to the classroom that is never really seen. The students had many questions in the first few days about how we would pass out flavored water and when we could fill up ice and whose turn it was for the chairs. It welcomed many new classroom discussions. The space offers incentives to the students as well. I use it to motivate my learners as well. No one really wants to lose their chance at the chairs. To expand my project I would like to add more relaxation elements with a nature theme including aromatherapy, herbal teas, audio books/soundscapes, indoor plants, weighted blankets, and pillows. This would allow me to emphasize the importance of mental hydration and wellness to my students in a holistic approach. \r\n\r\nThe hydration station is used daily for the students to fill a cup or a water bottle with clean fresh ice from the ice-maker. On \"Flavorful Fridays,\" students are allowed to choose a water flavor of choice for their cups. We are also utilizing a rotation in our comfy reading chairs to conduct our reading circles for the day. The addition of comfy reading chairs has already provided a welcoming retreat for those seeking a quiet moment to relax throughout different times of the day. The ice-maker ensures that everyone can enjoy a refreshing drink, adding a simple but meaningful way to stay hydrated and focused. The mood lamp has brought a calming ambiance that helps soothe the mind and create a peaceful atmosphere. Each of these elements works together to make this station a true sanctuary for self-care within my classroom that I would not have been able to achieve without the donors' help.\r\n\r\nThe kindness and commitment to mental wellness through the donors' contributions has brought a valuable resource to my classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1735471731403,"projectUrl":"project/mental-hydration-station/8724197/","projectTitle":"Mental Hydration Station!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ackerman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ackermanshydrationstation"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_122950","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":502,"numTeachers":37,"percentFrplEligible":93,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":88,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"5 - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"13.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":82.7,"schoolId":122950,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Kiski Area Upper Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Kiski Area Upper Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/pennsylvania/kiski-area-school-district/kiski-area-upper-elementary-school/122950"}
