My students all have unique individual needs that can often involve a lot of creativity to support. Many of my middle school students are working on higher level language skills, including strategies that can support their classroom skills. The Super Duper Context Clues set has been a great way to incorporate working on defining vocabulary within context, using grade level text and vocabulary. It also includes a \"decoder\" light that will highlight the answer, making the activity more engaging for my students. \r\nThe Reading Comprehension Game Board set has been a huge hit so far this year with my students! They all include cards with text and questions at their level that can easily be incorporated into the fun and engaging games. In a world of technology, there is nothing better than using paper based resources and hands on activities that support face to face participation with peers. My kids have really enjoyed the unique game themes and it has created a lot of opportunities for socialization. As a speech-language pathologist I am always looking for new resources to support my students and their unique needs. It can be challenging to find materials that support their speech sound disorders, while also being appropriate for their ages. The Super Duper Vocalic R articulation deck was the perfect resource as it uses real photos instead of clipart while still containing engaging activities. Many of my students work on the \"R\" sound, which is one of the most difficult sounds as it has many types. This articulation set has decks for every type of R (OR, AR, EAR, IRE, ER, AIR). \r\n\r\nI also have been able to utilize our new mouth puppet to start the year. Even my kids who aren't working on speech sounds love to ask about it and talk about it! The mouth puppet is anatomically correct and helps my students in learning about tongue placement for all of their speech sounds. I am able to show various parts of the mouth that are essential to know for making their sounds. My students have always LOVED having access to wobble chairs. The chairs that we purchased for this project add more options to the room so that every student has to access to one if they need it. \r\nMy students are also a big fan of the type that we picked out as they find them much more comfortable than the older version that we had. When my students saw the new chairs, they were so excited to try the new ones and have enjoyed the brighter colors. Unfortunately, I am unable to show my students in photos, but just know that their faces lit up at the sight of the new chairs. \r\nWobble chairs have been a huge help for my students over the past several years that I have utilized them. They have allowed my students to get in necessary movement while staying focused on their work. During this time of budget uncertainty in public education, it can be difficult to get new materials. I am beyond excited to have new evidence based materials that can support my middle schoolers higher level language needs that will support them with academic skills. My students will be using these materials to dive deeper into fiction and non-fiction text and practicing strategies that help them understand and communicate what the text is sharing.
