The students were absolutely thrilled that they were able to use these in the classroom and could not wait to get started with the typing program. The students are so familiar with iPads and don't properly use the keypad. This leads to them trying to use the voice to text feature and take away from them actually using their phonics skills to spell and type. Students can now use these keyboards to help them learn the proper positioning and the typing program to help them become familiar with the letter locations. Later in the year, we will use these when the students begin to type reports and stories. I am very grateful that I was able to get a half class set and that only two students have to share a keyboard. The students cannot wait until it is their day when they get to practice using it. We have used them as whole group lesson that includes an activity and then they have been made available for students to use in the classroom library as needed. I have seen a huge change in empathy among many students and one of my students has been able to better describe their feelings and work through things that make them anxious.
