Instead I ordered hexbug nano's for my classroom. I used these for the first time with my 2nd graders after they had just completed another STEM project. One of my students had used these bugs before, but the rest of the class hadn't seen them yet. \r\n\r\nStudents were challenged with keeping the vibrating bug from running off their table. Students worked in groups of 2 or 3 that I chose. The class often has to learn how to work with other students who are not necessarily their best friends - though even working with a friend can be a challenge. Students had to build walls out of cardboard and tape as well as using the existing rubber blockades that come with the hexbug sets. The larger the arena built, the bigger hexbug they get to use. The arena had to be completely enclosed before they got a bug to use. If the bug escaped, students were not allowed to use their hands to block or pick up the bug. Many found using pencils, scissors or cardboard worked to handle the vibrating bugs. \r\n\r\nStudents loved this project and asked to use the bugs again. I love that they were using their engineering design skills to build walls and arenas.","fullyFundedDate":1720752485668,"projectUrl":"project/robots-for-early-elementary-students/8303732/","projectTitle":"Robots for Early Elementary Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Neill","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7574736_orig.jpg?crop=1368,1367,x0,y27&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1630234305085","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-neill-stem"},{"teacherId":7574736,"projectId":9049551,"letterContent":"Our elementary STEAM classroom thanks you for your donation of technology. It helps so much to have these special headphones to capture their voices since there might be an entire class working away and all that background noise can drown out the student trying to record.
