The calm-down tools and visual supports are part of our daily routine. One powerful moment happened during morning meeting when a student began to feel frustrated. Instead of shutting down or yelling, he independently walked to our calm-down area, chose a fidget, and used a feelings visual to tell me he was \"angry.\" That moment showed incredible growth. He was able to identify his feeling and use a strategy — something we've been explicitly practicing together.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the students were so excited. They were especially drawn to the sensory tools and feelings visuals. We took time to model how to use each item respectfully and appropriately. The students immediately began practicing deep breathing, positive self-talk, and using the calm-down corner as a tool — not a punishment. It quickly became a safe, empowering space.\r\n\r\nOur next steps focus on building independence and peer empathy. We are working on using kind words, solving small problems with sentence stems (\"I feel ___ when ___.\"), and recognizing emotions in others. We are also incorporating role-play during morning meeting so students can practice real-life scenarios in a structured way.\r\n\r\nYour support has helped create a classroom where students feel seen, heard, and supported.
