Thanks to the generous donations, we were able to purchase comfortable seating, engaging books, organizational materials, and creative supplies to make the room more inviting. One standout moment was when students first walked in after the transformation. They were immediately drawn to the cozy reading corners, colorful posters, and new resources. It created an environment that felt less like a traditional classroom and more like a space for exploration and growth.\r\n\r\nInitial Reactions to New Materials\r\nWhen the students saw the new materials, their reactions were priceless. They were excited about the new books—especially those they hadn't seen before—and they loved the cozy, flexible seating options. It made a huge difference in how they viewed the space. The environment became one where they felt comfortable and eager to engage, which is essential for building confidence in reading.\r\n\r\nNext Steps for the Project\r\nThe next steps involve using the materials to support personalized learning plans for each student. We'll be focusing on small group instruction with activities tailored to their reading levels, using the new books and resources to reinforce skills. I'm also planning to incorporate more interactive reading games and literacy stations, allowing students to take ownership of their learning in this welcoming environment. The goal is to build a community of readers who feel empowered and confident in their abilities, and the new space is already fostering that sense of belonging.","fullyFundedDate":1727128128981,"projectUrl":"project/creating-a-welcoming-reading-interventio/8675516/","projectTitle":"Creating a Welcoming Reading Intervention Room","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Peck","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9688493"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_109772","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":617,"numTeachers":51,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":10,"percentWhite":76,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":76.1,"schoolId":109772,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Brownsville Area Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Brownsville Area Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/pennsylvania/brownsville-area-school-district/cox-donahey-elementary-school/109772"}
