I have found that my students were more on task and focused once they were able to have a snack. Some of my students do not have breakfast in the morning so once they knew that they could ask for a snack, they were excited to get to work and have something to eat. I had a few students tell me that the snacks in my room were the first thing they had to eat all day and that they knew I would take care of them being hungry. \r\n\r\nMy students were shocked to see the amount of food that had been donated to my classroom. To preserve it for the whole year, I made sure that students had to ask permission to get a snack from the closet which taught them to be respectful of their classmates and other students who were also hungry. They were very thankful to have snacks available to them when they needed them most. \r\n\r\nMy students are currently learning about where their food comes from and how important commodities grown in Oregon and the United States are to us every single day. I am hopeful that I can come up with additional projects that will make my students excited to come to school every day.
